January 2006

Last night I recorded Dr. 90210 on my MythTV (per request from Christina).  It is so damn smooth and nice.  I wish that I could explain how cool this damn thing is, words can not explain it. Maybe If you fools are luck I will alow you streaming access to Live TV and my Video Library of pre-recorder shows etc.

Something that that is worth noting.  Windows is extremly boring.  There is no sense of satisfaction among anything you do! Windows is like an automatic transmission in a car vs linux, a manual trans. Some people are fine with driving a boring ass station wagon with an automatic trans, while some people want more excitement! When I got MythTV working on my box last night there was an enormous amount of satisfaction.

Woo Hoo!  I am populating my MySQL database with the channel listings for our area.  Looks like I will have mythTV up in a few minutes.  This crap is so damn cool.

I moved slow as ussual yestrday. Too many distractions.  I was unable to finish set-up of MythTV because I couldn’t get the drivers for my PVR to work.  I was using Yum (Yellow dog Updater, Modified) and I did not have the Fedora Public keys. I resolved this issue today, after finding a very nice FC4 beginners guide. It has a tutorial on Yum set-up.

Now that I have properly configured yum, I am updating once again.  I am hoping to have MythTV configured by 9:30 tonight, although that is highly unlikely.  There is a good chance that I might cross paths with some good Kentucky Bourbon, and MythTV will have to be put on hold again.

installation of Fedora Core 4 complete. It runs really, really fast! FC4 is the bomb!
Running yum update now. Piston V.S. Lakers in 4 hours.

Ok, I am now just getting started with the Core 4 installation.  I had two set backs; lunch and a game of grab ass with my wife.

I am ready to jam out now though.

Project 1: MythTV
My Linux bo has been acting a fool! It runs slower than McCarthy trying to gobble down a Jet Boat at lunch time. Two days ago I rebuilt my kernel; However, I did not get the results I was hoping for. Last night I downloaded the DVD of Fedora Core 4. I will install that today. After installation of FC4, MythTV will be installed. I will need:

  • 25ft Coax
  • Possibly new AMD CPU
  • Possibly new Antec Power Supply
  • Future upgrade to Hi-Def PVR

Christina and I are going to watch the Piston’s game with my Dad at 6:30 tonight. I hope to complete this before we have to go over there.  it is raining right now… this will make it harder to get the coax.
